JULY ARTIST OF THE MONTH
Sally Telfer, Sally Telfer Originals
I live on a small farm in South Australia, a very beautiful part of the world. My obsession with all sorts of art and craft goes back to my childhood and I first started making bears about fifteen years ago. I wander off to other crafts but always seem to return to the bears. When that face goes on they become something special with their own personality. I love working with mohair; it is so soft and smooth. I find too that it makes for nice faces as it doesn't stretch out of shape as I stuff that head to within an inch of its life. For some time I have been making my own noses with polymer clay. This allows me to design and make each bear his own shiny little nose to suit his own unique face. My interest in all types of art seems to be an asset with my bear making as it holds me in good stead when it comes dressing and staging them. My goal is to make bears that make people smile and that touch their hearts a little.
